iVybe Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
iVybe ("iVybe," "we," "us," or "our") is a real-world social discovery app operated by Fadi A Adib. iVybe helps people who are physically near each other — at the same venue or in the same place — discover a shared moment and connect in real time.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the iVybe mobile app and this website.
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@ivybe.app.
2. The short version
We built iVybe around a principle we call presence over persistence: the app is about the moment you're in, not a permanent record of your movements. That principle shapes how we handle your data. In plain terms:
- We never store a continuous history of where you go. We record only the starting point of each vybing session, for safety and audit — not a location trail.
- We don't use passwords. You sign in through Apple or Google, and we never see or store a password.
- Ephemeral things are designed to disappear. Chats end when the moment ends, and are permanently deleted after a short retention window.
- When you delete your account, we mean it — your data is erased, not archived.
The sections below give the full detail.
3. Age requirement
iVybe is intended only for adults. You must be 18 or older to use iVybe. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Age is collected at sign-up and enforced at the database level; an account cannot be created with an age under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it.
4. Information we collect
4.1 Information you provide
- Account identity. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique identifier for your account (a token that confirms you are you) and, only if you choose to share it, your email address. Apple in particular lets you hide your email; if you do, we never receive it. We never receive or store your Apple or Google password.
- Profile information. Your first name, age, the "mode" you're open to (for example, meeting, chatting, or dating), and optionally a short bio, a fun fact, and a list of interests you select from a fixed list.
- Photos. The profile photos you upload (up to three).
- Reports you file. If you report another user, we collect the reason, any optional free-text you add, and the context of the report, so our safety processes can act on it.
4.2 Information we collect automatically when you use the app
- Location, while you are vybing. When you turn on a vybing session ("toggle on"), we use your device's location to find people near you and to identify the venue you're at. We store the coordinates of where a session started — as a per-session record for safety, audit, and abuse-prevention — but we do not store a continuous trail of your movements. Your live position is held only in temporary, fast-expiring memory while your session is active, and is used to place you among nearby people; it is not written to a permanent location history.
- Venue information. We send your session's starting coordinates to Google Places to identify the venue (its name and place identifier). We store that venue's name and identifier on the session record.
- Wi-Fi network name (optional). If available, your device may share the name of the Wi-Fi network you're connected to, which helps us tell whether two people are genuinely in the same place. This is deleted from the session record as soon as the session ends.
- Messages. The content of messages you send in a Resonance chat, for as long as that chat exists (see retention, Section 7).
- Device notification token. If you enable push notifications, we store a token that lets us deliver notifications to your device. It is removed when you sign out.
- Basic technical and usage data. Timestamps of activity (such as when you were last active) used to operate the service and for basic analytics.
4.3 What we deliberately do NOT collect or keep
- We do not keep a continuous location history or movement trail.
- We do not store passwords.
- We do not retain the Wi-Fi network name beyond the life of a session.
- We do not show your exact coordinates, distance, or venue to other users — only a sense of who is nearby.
5. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Provide the core experience — show you people who are genuinely near you, in a compatible mode, and let you send and receive Vybes and chat.
- Identify venues so the "same place" experience works.
- Deliver notifications you've opted into (for example, that someone sent you a Vybe, or that a chat is about to fade).
- Keep the community safe — enforce blocks, process reports, detect abuse patterns, and act on violations.
- Operate and improve the service — basic analytics, debugging, and reliability.
- Meet legal and safety obligations where applicable.
6. How your information is shown to other users
iVybe is a discovery app, so some information is, by design, visible to others — but we limit it deliberately:
- Before you connect, another nearby user sees only your first name, your primary photo, and your current mode. They do not see your age, bio, interests, exact location, distance, or venue.
- After you both connect (a mutual "Bump"), you each see the other's fuller profile — first name, age, photos, bio, fun fact, and interests.
- We never reveal your exact coordinates, your movement, or whether you declined someone. Declining is silent.
7. How long we keep your information (retention)
Our retention reflects the presence-over-persistence principle:
- Account and profile data — kept while your account is active. Deleted when you delete your account (Section 9).
- Live location during a session — held only in temporary memory that expires automatically; not stored as history.
- Session starting-point records — retained as an audit/safety record associated with your account, and removed when you delete your account.
- Wi-Fi network name — deleted as soon as the session ends.
- Chats and messages — a chat lives while the connection is active; when it ends, it is retained only for a short window and then permanently deleted. Chats that end because of a block are purged promptly — blocking is erasure, not archival.
- Notification token — removed when you sign out.
- Safety records (reports and blocks) — retained as needed for safety and abuse-prevention. See Section 9 for how these are handled, in de-identified form, after account deletion.
8. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make iVybe work, and only as needed:
- Apple / Google — to sign you in (single sign-on).
- Google Places — to identify the venue you're at, using your session's starting coordinates.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Cloud object storage — where your profile photos are stored.
- Our hosting provider — which runs our servers and databases.
Each of these providers processes data on our behalf to deliver a specific function. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of users or the public, or to enforce our terms.
9. Deleting your account
You can delete your account from within the app. When you do:
- Your account and profile data are erased — this is a true deletion, not a deactivation or archive. We do not keep a hidden copy of your identity to re-link you later.
- We instruct Apple to revoke iVybe's sign-in connection to your Apple account, so the link between you and iVybe is severed on Apple's side as well.
- Your photos, session records, chats, and messages associated with your account are removed as part of deletion.
- One exception, for community safety: if other users have reported you, or you have filed reports, the moderation records may be retained in de-identified form — the reporter's identity is disassociated — so that safety history and abuse patterns are not erased by simply deleting an account. These records do not retain your profile.
10. Your choices
- Location. iVybe asks for location permission to work. You can grant or deny it, and change it anytime in your device settings. Without location, the core discovery experience cannot function.
- Notifications. You choose whether to enable push notifications, and you can turn specific notification types on or off in the app's settings, or all of them in your device settings.
- Profile. You can edit your profile information and photos at any time. (Your age is set once at sign-up and is not editable.)
- Blocking and reporting. You can block or report other users at any time.
- Deletion. You can delete your account at any time (Section 9).
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information (you can do this yourself via account deletion).
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Portability — receive your information in a usable format.
- Withdraw consent you previously gave (for example, for location or notifications).
To exercise any of these, contact support@ivybe.app. We will respond as required by applicable law. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
California residents: We do not sell or "share" (as defined under California law) your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know, delete, correct, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
12. Security
We protect your information with industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS/WSS), authentication tokens stored in your device's secure storage (Apple Keychain / Android Keystore), and access controls on our systems. No system is perfectly secure, but we design iVybe so that the most sensitive data — your movements — is never accumulated in the first place.
13. International users
iVybe is operated from Oregon, United States, and your information may be processed there and in the locations where our service providers operate.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of iVybe after a change means you accept the updated policy.
